Namoo

A poetic VR short directed by Erick Oh and produced by Baobab Studios. I worked as the Lead Quill Artist on this Oscar-shortlisted project, collaborating with a small team of world-class creatives. My main responsibilities included painting and animating the environments, as well as designing much of the camera choreography to guide viewers through the emotional journey.

Collaborating with world-class artists on an emotional journey

Namoo was a deeply personal story brought to life by a small, tightly knit team at Baobab Studios. As Lead Quill Artist, I was fortunate to collaborate with some of the most talented creatives in the industry, including Oscar-nominated director Erick Oh. Despite the project’s emotional weight and visual complexity, the team remained agile — and the trust we had in each other made space for honest, expressive work.

Crafting environments and camera work with brushstrokes

My main responsibility on Namoo was to paint and animate the majority of the film’s environments, using Quill to create spaces that reflected the protagonist’s emotional evolution. I also developed much of the camera choreography, guiding viewers through memory, metaphor, and time. It was a unique challenge to balance storytelling and composition in real-time 3D space — and one of the most creatively fulfilling experiences I’ve had.

Recognition for Namoo

Namoo was shortlisted for the Academy Awards in 2022 for Best Animated Short Film and screened at top-tier festivals including Sundance, Annecy, HollyShorts, and many more. It received accolades such as Best Animated Short at the St. Louis International Film Festival and Best VR Experience at Stereopsia Europe, and was also nominated for the Cristal Award at Annecy.

The film was widely praised for its emotional storytelling, painterly visual style, and innovative use of Quill in immersive narrative. It was featured on Meta Quest TV and covered by major outlets including Variety, Cartoon Brew, and Animation World Network — marking it as a milestone in VR animation.
